Albert Heim Foundation

The Albert Heim Foundation of the Swiss Cynological Society (SKG) is a foundation within the meaning of Art. 80 ff. Of the Civil Code with its seat at the Natural History Museum in Bern . Its purpose includes the promotion and expansion of the cynological collection left by Theophil Studer , the support of scientific research in the field of cynology and the dissemination of the knowledge gained from this research. The foundation is named after the Swiss cynologist Albert Heim .

The foundation was established on April 14, 1929 at the delegates' assembly of the SKG in Bern and named in honor of Albert Heim, who celebrated his 80th birthday shortly before the foundation was founded and who also successfully supported the unity of the SKG between 1926 and 1928 had started.

Cynological collection

The foundation administers and expands the cynological collection started by Studer at the Natural History Museum. Studer began collecting in 1868 when a large number of well-preserved remains of wild and domestic animal bones from the Neolithic Age came to light during the first correction of the Jura waters , and expanded this continuously until his death in 1922. After Studer's death, the collection became his Successor at the Natural History Museum, Franz Baumann, continues to look after and expand. Baumann recognized the great potential value of such a collection for research and turned to the SKG, which set up the foundation for this purpose, to support its further expansion.

Today the collection includes bones, skulls and skins of dogs from the Neolithic to the present day. With an inventory of over 2,500 dog skulls, the collection is the largest in the world in this regard. The foundation also has a comprehensive cynological library .
