The Swiss Canine Society ( SKG ) ( French. Société Cynologique Suisse , it. Società Cinologica Svizzera , SCS) is the umbrella organization of most dog breeders in Switzerland . It was founded in 1883 and is based in Balsthal . It currently has 358 sections (independent associations) with a total of around 68,000 members in Switzerland and Liechtenstein . The SKG itself is affiliated with the FCI , the world umbrella organization for cynology .

As the national organization, the SKG is responsible for cynological interests in Switzerland and represents them to authorities and foreign cynological organizations. She has set herself the task of promoting pedigree dogs and accompanying breeding and for this purpose keeps the Swiss Dog Stud Book (SHSB / LOS). She pays attention to the keeping, upbringing and training of dogs according to scientific knowledge, a fair sportsmanship and observance of the principles of animal welfare in federal animal welfare legislation.

Within the FCI, the SKG is responsible for the breed standards of the Swiss dog breeds. These are the Appenzeller Sennenhund , Berger Blanc Suisse , Berner Sennenhund , St. Bernard , Entlebucher Sennenhund , Greater Swiss Mountain Dog , Swiss Hound and Swiss Low Running Dog . At the national level, it also recognizes the Continental Bulldog .

With the Albert Heim Foundation, the SKG operates a foundation to promote scientific cynological research. They are also the monthly magazines dogs (German) and Info Chiens (French; formerly Cynologie Romande ) out.
