The Entlebucher Sennenhund is a Swiss dog breed recognized by the FCI ( FCI Group 2, Section 3, Standard No. 47 ).
description
The Entlebucher Sennenhund is up to 52 cm tall and 20-30 kg in weight, the smallest of the four Sennenhund breeds, which also include the Appenzeller Sennenhund , the Bernese Mountain Dog and the Great Swiss Mountain Dog . Its fur is stick-haired , the top coat is short, tightly fitting, hard and shiny, dense undercoat, three-colored: basic color black with the most symmetrical (yellow to brownish-rust-red) tan and white markings. The ears are drooping, not too big; set high and relatively broad. The unusually long and usually strong back of the Entlebucher is particularly striking.
In some parts of Europe docking of rods has been banned for several years . That is why the Entlebuch mountain dogs now have a longer tail (straight, hanging; not curled like the Appenzeller). Almost 10% of Entlebuchers are born with a congenital stubby tail .
Essence
The Entlebucher is a very lively and spirited dog . He is very nimble and agile. That is why it is important to keep him busy. These are suitable dog sports such as agility , grassroots or track work particularly well. Entlebuchers need a loving but consistent upbringing. Therefore, they are only partially suitable for beginners.
Diseases
Despite the small size of the Entlebuch mountain dog, hip dysplasia (HD) and hereditary eye diseases occur with him ; primarily cataracts ( cataracts ) and progressive retinal atrophy (PRA).
Another disease that occurs more frequently in Entlebuch mountain dogs is goniodysplasia , a malformation of the angle of the chamber in the eye. This can mean that the eye fluid cannot drain off properly and the eye pressure increases rapidly ( glaucoma ). If this is not recognized as quickly as possible, it can happen that the dog goes blind if it is severe. Goniodysplasia is hereditary; the exact mode of inheritance is not known. According to the guidelines of the American College of Veterinary Ophthalmology , breeding exclusion of affected dogs is recommended.
The short tail of the Entlebuch mountain dog is generally considered to be dominant over the normal length of the tail and is a lethal factor in its pure-breeding form . Short-tailed Entlebuch Mountain Dogs should therefore not be bred together.
