Albert Brandenburg (Mayor)

Albert Brandenburg (born January 23, 1835 in Bordeaux ; † 1886 ) was mayor of the city of Bordeaux from 1878 to 1884 .

His father George's family belonged to the Protestant families who immigrated to the Chartron district of southern Germany, northwest of Bordeaux, at the beginning of the 19th century. The area around Freiburg , but also Bavaria, is given as origin . His mother was Anne Pöhls. After completing school, his father sent him to Germany for three years to improve his German language. Brandenburg married the daughter of a merchant, Anne Chaumel, in 1862.

At the age of 33 he became a judge at the finance court of Bordeaux. In 1874 he gave up this activity and became a member of the city council. When four years later the post of his predecessor Émile Fourcand became vacant because he moved to the General Council of the Gironde department , he was nominated and was elected.

His achievements the establishment of the first one Pferdebahn during his tenure as mayor in 1880. The same year he inaugurated together with the later Foreign Minister of France , Jules Ferry , high school Lycée Michel Montaigne one.

Honors

A boulevard is named after him in the north of the city of Bordeaux. This represents the extension of Boulevard Alfred Daney , who became his successor in office.
