Albert Christiaan Willem Beerman (born January 29, 1901 in Amsterdam , † November 26, 1967 in Rotterdam ) was a Dutch lawyer and politician at Christelijk-Historische Unie (CHU), who was Minister of Justice in the cabinet of Prime Minister Jan de Quay between 1959 and 1963 and as such introduced numerous laws such as the football pool , a reform of youth criminal law and a regulation on legal remedies against the crown. On the other hand, at the end of his term of office, he was criticized for the fact that numerous bills had not been implemented.

Life

Beerman attended grammar school in Amsterdam from 1913 to 1919 and then began studying law in the Netherlands on September 24, 1919 at the University of Leiden , which he graduated on May 19, 1925. After completing his studies, he took up a position as a lawyer in the law firm Nolst Trenité, Beerman, Bergsma en Baanders in 1925 and worked for them until November 1959.

In addition to his professional activity, he began his political career in local politics and was a member of the Rotterdam City Council for Christelijk-Historische Unie (CHU) between September 2, 1946 and May 19, 1959.

On May 19, 1959, Beerman was appointed by Prime Minister Jan de Quay as Minister of Justice (Minister van Justitie) in his cabinet, to which he belonged until July 24, 1963. During his tenure, he introduced numerous laws such as the football pool , a reform of juvenile criminal law and a regulation on legal remedies against the crown. On the other hand, at the end of his term of office, he was criticized for the fact that numerous bills had not been implemented.

Shortly before leaving the government, Beerman, who was also an officer of the Order of Orange-Nassau, was awarded the Knight's Cross of the Order of the Dutch Lion for his long service on July 17, 1963 . Most recently, until his death on November 26, 1967, he was chairman of the CHU study commission for regional reforms.

His marriage to Cornelia Liza de Roos in May 1942 in The Hague resulted in two daughters and two sons.
