Albert Ehrismann

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Albert Ehrismann (born September 20, 1908 in Zurich ; † February 10, 1998 ibid) was a Swiss poet , playwright and narrator.

Life

Ehrismann, the son of the magazine Albert Ehrismann and the seamstress Emma Suter, came from humble circumstances. He initially worked as an accountant, but then began writing around 1929 when he became unemployed. The socially committed Ehrismann refused to do military service and was sentenced to prison in 1932. In 1934 he was one of the co-founders of the Cabaret Cornichon . After the war, Ehrismann wrote very successfully for the magazine Nebelspalter for years , and also earned his living by writing commissioned poems for the advertising industry. In 1978 he received the Literature Prize of the City of Zurich.

He found his final resting place in the communal grave at the Manegg cemetery in Zurich .

power

Ehrismann, who also wrote plays and short stories, was primarily a poet. In contrast to most of his contemporaries, he devoted himself to socially critical issues from the city's milieu . Despite the large number of verses he has created, his poems always seem original and fresh. He achieved notoriety and popularity through the years of weekly publication of Ehrismann's poems in the Nebelspalter . As an anthology of his works put it in the title, Ehrismann was both a “pessimist and a moralist”.
