Albert Emil Rüthy

Albert Emil Rüthy (born July 6, 1901 in Pruntrut ; † October 19, 1980 in Bern ) was a Swiss Christian Catholic clergyman and professor at the Christian Catholic theological faculty of the University of Bern .

Life

Born as the son of the federal customs officer Albert Rütti and his wife Frieda Louise b. Merz, after attending grammar school in Lucerne, he began studying theology at the Catholic theological faculty of the University of Bern. A study visit to Leipzig with Rudolf Kittel followed from 1922 to 1923. Rüthy passed the Bern state examination in 1924 and was ordained a priest in Bern . He then worked as vicar in Biel , in 1926 as pastor in Kaiseraugst and Olsberg and from 1938 to 1941 in Saint-Imier , from 1941 to 1952 as a pastor in Bern. It was established in 1940 at the University of Basel Dr. phil. PhD . In the same year he was appointed associate professor for Old Testament sciences at the University of Bern, where he also taught liturgy from 1942 . From 1951 to 1971 he was full professor of the Old Testament and liturgy there, and from 1958 to 1959 he was also rector of the University of Bern.

He was also President of the Swiss National Synod and, as the first President of the Liturgical Revision Commission, played a key role in the renewal of the Christian Catholic liturgy .

Albert Emil Rüthy was married to Edith Rosa geb. Vogt.
