After the National Socialists came to power and communist activities were banned in March 1933, Fischer was arrested several times and was interned in the Buchenwald concentration camp for a long time . After the end of the Second World War he became a member of the KPD again and was politically active until his death. His son of the same name was also active in the KPD.
