Albert Market

The Albert Market is a street market in Banjul , in the West African country Gambia . The market on Liberation Avenue has existed since the mid-19th century.

history

It is named after Prince Consort Albert von Sachsen-Coburg and Gotha , the husband of Queen Victoria of England . The United Kingdom controlled Gambia during the colonial period.

In 1986 the Albert Market was largely destroyed by a fire.
