Albert Truchsess

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Albert Truchseß was abbot of the Benedictine monastery in Münsterschwarzach . As such, it has only come down to us in Heinrich Wagner's abbots series. His term of office is also unclear. He was probably only abbot in 1374, until Konrad IV von Maienfels was able to prevail after the schismatic election of that year.

Münsterschwarzach before Truchsess

The 14th century in Münsterschwarzach was marked by a number of crises that the convent had to endure. At the beginning of the century, in 1317, there was a dispute: Two men of the same name fought for the abbot, and in the end Konrad I. Zobel was able to prevail. The subsequent abbots then tried to discharge the monastery, but were thrown back by a flood disaster in 1342 when many goods were destroyed.

Life

There is no information about the origin and family. Nor is the abbot's short term of office mentioned in the sources. After an abbot election in September 1374, after the death of Abbot Walther III. , two winners emerged from the vote. On the one hand Konrad IV and Albert. Pope Gregory XI. thereupon set Archbishop Johann V of Prague to choose one of the two. After Albert Truchseß was not selected, further life and the date of death are also unclear.
