Albert William Christian Theodore Herre (born September 16, 1868 in Toledo , Ohio ; † January 16, 1962 in Santa Cruz , California ) was an American lichen scientist and ichthyologist who dealt in particular with the fish of the Indo-Pacific region.

In 1903 he graduated with a Bachelor of Science in botany from Stanford University followed by a Master's Degree and Ph.D. in the field of ichthyology.

Herre headed the fisheries department of the Bureau of Science in Manila, Philippines from 1919 to 1928 . During this time he discovered and described many new fish species.
