Alberto Angelo Capozzi (born July 8, 1884 in Genoa , † March 19, 1945 in Rome ) was an Italian actor .

Life

Capozzi comes from a shipowner family and spent his childhood and youth in Sestri Ponente at the seminar there; at the same time he discovered his love for acting, which he cultivated as an amateur at the "Teatro Nazionale di Genua". After professional beginnings as a performer in secondary ensembles, he played with Virgilio Talli and Lyda Borelli . In 1909 he went to film, where he and Mary Cleo Tarlarini formed one of the first dream couples on screen for the “Ambrosio” film company in Turin, often in historical material. From 1912 he worked for Pasquali, Cines and other production companies, for which he shot a large number of outstanding dramatic and sentimental silent films. Examples are Il granatiere Roland (1911), La figlia di Jorio and Nozze d'oro from the same year, Le colpe degli altri by Ubaldo Maria Del Colle (1912), a version of I promessi sposi (1913), La maschera che sanguina ( 1914) or La colpa vendica la colpa (1916). Due to the war, Capozzi reduced his cinematographic activities; with Gero Zambuto the four-part Il fiacre n. 13 was still a great success in 1917.

After the war he was able to continue his cinema career with mild success until the crisis in 1922; in 1923 the theater offered him the opportunity to continue working alongside Tatiana Pavlova . In 1927 he was seen in the ensemble with Alda Borelli and Calisto Bertramo . In the period shortly after the introduction of talkies, Capozzi was also one of the actors who appeared in Italian-language version films of Hollywood productions. After a long stay in England and France, Capozzi returned to Italy in the late 1930s. The actor, who was now mostly a villain, only had secondary roles until his death.
