Sestri Ponente is a district of the Italian port city of Genoa . It is located in the Genoese Ponente , west of the city center, between the districts of Cornigliano and Pegli and administratively belongs to the Munizip VI Medio Ponente .

Sestri Ponente includes the districts of Sestri, San Giovanni Battista, Calcinara and Borzoli, which together have a population of 46,985. The district is sometimes referred to as the “city within the city” because of its size and economic importance.

Aeroporto Genova-Sestri "Cristoforo Colombo" Airport is 7 km from Genoa city center , in Sestri Ponente.

The change of Sestri from a small agricultural and fishing village to an industrial town took place with the settlement of several shipyards and steel industry complexes between the end of the 18th century and the First World War . Industrialization also brought about an upswing in the labor movement; Sestri Ponente was, among other things, the scene of major strike movements at the end of the 1960s.
