Ubaldo Maria Del Colle (born June 27, 1883 in Rome , † August 24, 1958 ) was an Italian actor and film director .

Life

Del Colle worked as a stage actor since 1903 and was part of the ensemble in the first Italian feature film, La presa di Roma , made in 1905 . In the following years he became more and more interested in the new art form and from 1909 he devoted himself exclusively to film, from 1911 also as a director. By 1927 he made more than 110 films, often first film adaptations and important works, such as 1913 Giovanna d'Arco with Maria Jacobini , the film series about Raffles that ran from 1911 to 1914, or I figli di nessuno with Leda Gys in 1921 - contributions that also achieved extraordinary box-office successes . He preferred literary adaptations, serials and love stories. From 1911 to 1913 he worked for the production company “Pasquali”, then for “Savoia Film” and finally for his own “Del Colle Film”. Employed for "Lombardo Films" from 1920 onwards, it was mainly melodramas with which Del Colle succeeded.

In 1927 Del Colle, who was married to the actress Lina Pasquette (actually Pasqualina Pasquetti), retired from the film business until he took over a cinema in Rapallo after the Second World War . In 1951 he worked twice as assistant director before he presented his only sound and last film in 1952 with Menzogna .
