Alberto Y Lost Trios Paranoias

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Alberto y Lost Trios Paranoias (also called the "Albertos") was a comedy rock band founded in 1973 in Manchester . The name of the band is a corruption of the Latin American band Alberto y Los Trios Paraguayos .

Band history

The group was founded in 1973 by former members of the rock band Greasy Bear , singer Chris "CP" Lee and drummer Bruce Mitchell. Other members were the musicians Bob Harding (vocals, guitar, bass), Les Prior (vocals), Simon White (guitar), Tony Bowers (bass, guitar), Jimmy Hibbert (vocals) and Ray "Mighty Mongo" Hughes as second drummer .

The band became a popular support act and played, for example, in the opening act for Hawkwind on his 1974 tour. The group parodied 1970s pop groups such as Abba and Devo in text, music and appearance . The piece, entitled Anadin , based on the trade name for an over the counter headache medicine , was an adaptation of Lou Reed's song Heroin .

They released three albums and a variety of singles. On the 1977 EP Snuff Rock , released by Stiff Records , the band poked fun at the punk rock phenomenon, targeting the Sex Pistols ( Gobbing On Life ), The Damned ( Kill ) and The Clash ( Snuffin 'Like That ). The single Heads Down No Nonsense Mindless Boogie , a parody of the band Status Quo , reached number 47 in the UK singles chart in 1978.

Les Prior died of leukemia in 1980. The band had a hit with the British television show Teach Yourself Gibberish in 1982 , but split shortly thereafter. The story of the band is told by CP Lee in his book When We Were Thin , published in 2007.

A concert by the group was recorded and broadcast in 1978 as part of the Rockpalast television series by WDR .
