The Albertus Magnus Realschule (AMR) is a Catholic private school in St. Ingbert (Saarland). It is sponsored by the non-profit St. Dominikus Schools GmbH .
history
In 1852 the community of sisters of the Order of the Poor School Sisters of St. Dominic was founded by Bishop Nikolaus von Weis (since 1972 Institute of St. Dominic). In 1858 the sisters took up activities at the Mass in schools, health services, kindergartens and parishes. From 1957, lessons began for the first time for 31 pupils at what was then the middle school. In 1965 the middle school is restructured into a secondary school. 5 years later it gets its current name. In the 1983/84 school year, boys were admitted to secondary school for the first time.
Partnerships
The Albertus Magnus Realschule looks after three mentoring stations, these are located in São Paulo ( Brazil ), Akwatia ( Ghana ) and Tororo ( Uganda ). These are supported by the sale of cakes and bread rolls for the individual classes during the long breaks, by Sr. Hildburg's Advent bazaars, by school festivals and by solidarity marches (2000, 2004, 2009, 2014) and by donations.
The COMPASSION project is carried out with local partners . Here, students go to the elderly in old people's and nursing homes every week to spend time with them. In the school year 2012/13, 148 students from grades 8 to 10 took part in this project. In 2012 COMPASSION took part in the “Be your own hero” school competition organized by the savings banks and became the regional winner.
