Albpetrol Sh. A. or Albpetrol for short is Albania's national energy company . The company is based in Patos .
Company history
Albpetrol was founded as a state company in 1992 and transformed into a joint stock company in 1998 .
On October 3, 2012, the Albanian government signed a sales agreement with Vetro Energy , a US consortium , according to which Albpetrol was to be privatized for around 850 million euros and transferred to the US company for the next 25 years. Before the sale, the Albanian government secured the oil and gas producer a license to build a refinery and transport natural gas.
For non-performance reasons, the tender was discontinued at the beginning of 2013; Albpetrol is still the sole property of the Albanian state. The agreed advance payments by the best bidder Vetro were not made and the contract was ultimately not processed. The Albanian government is currently (2015) trying to launch a new tender.
Oil and gas production
Albpetrol owns 1264 oil fields across Albania. These produce over 135,000 tons of crude oil annually.
