Albrecht Dürer Pig
The Albrecht Dürer pig is a backbreeding of the medieval domestic pig . The back-breeding is based on the work of the German artist Albrecht Dürer .
history
Through continuous breeding, the domestic pig, as it was kept in the Middle Ages, became extinct. We owe our knowledge of the appearance of the pigs back then to the artist Albrecht Dürer, who has reproduced them realistically in several works. Based on these works, the medieval domestic pig could be bred back from blind pigs .
Usage today
Today the Albrecht Dürer pig is only kept in zoos and game enclosures in order to give a vivid impression of the domestic pigs around 1500. Examples can be seen in the Hundshaupten Wildlife Park and the Franconian Open Air Museum in Bad Windsheim .
