ALBRECHT HATTENHAUER (* 17th November 1899 in Minden , † 17th December 1964 ) was a German local politician of the CDU . From 1946 to 1959 he was mayor of the city of Minden ( Westphalia ).

Life and work

Albrecht Hattenhauer was a lawyer and practiced as a lawyer in Minden.

Public offices

In the first local election in the city of Minden after the end of World War II on September 15, 1946, the CDU was able to win an absolute majority of the seats in the Minden city council. Albrecht Hattenhauer was then elected mayor and took office on October 3, 1946. In the following elections in 1948, 1952 and 1956, the Minden CDU suffered heavy losses in votes, but Albrecht Hattenhauer remained in office with the support of the FDP until 1959.

As in almost all German cities, the political focus during his term of office was the rebuilding of the administration after the Second World War and the integration of the numerous displaced persons and refugees into the city of Minden. Another focus of local politics at the time was the reconstruction of the partly very badly damaged inner city of Minden.

In 1947 the district government was moved from Minden to Detmold . This decision resulted in a significant loss of importance for the city of Minden, which was only partially offset by the relocation of the Federal Railway Central Office from Berlin to Minden in 1949.

On September 24, 1955, the partial new building of the historic town hall of the city of Minden was inaugurated; after a very heavy air raid on the city on March 28, 1945, only the historic arcade remained of the building. Minden Cathedral , which was almost completely destroyed on March 28, 1945 , was rebuilt in the 1950s and solemnly consecrated in 1957.

In May 1959, for the first time in the history of the city council of Minden, there was a motion of no confidence in the administration of a mayor. The motion was successful in the vote on May 15, 1959, and the city council expressed its distrust of the mayor. This vote by the city council had no direct impact on Albrecht Hattenhauer's office; but since he no longer had the support of the majority in the city council, the mayor resigned on July 1, 1959 from his office. His successor was the city councilor Karl Rust of the FDP.
