Albrecht Steinecke

Albrecht Steinecke (born July 16, 1948 in Bad Bramstedt ) is a German geographer and tourism researcher . He is a professor at the University of Paderborn .

Live and act

After studying geography, sociology and literary studies at Kiel University and Trinity College Dublin , which he graduated in 1974, he received a doctoral scholarship from the graduate scholarship. Steinecke received his doctorate in 1974 at the University of Kiel on the subject of "Tourism as a factor in economic and social development - examined using the example of the Republic of Ireland". He then worked as a research assistant at the Institute for Geography at the Technical University of Berlin until 1984 . From 1985 to 1990 he worked as a research assistant at the Faculty of Education at Bielefeld University . In 1987 he completed his habilitation on the subject of "Leisure in spatial isolation: forecasts and analyzes of leisure and tourism in Berlin (West)" at the Technical University of Berlin. In 1991, Steinecke became head of the department at the Institute for Development Planning and Structural Research GmbH at the University of Hanover and a year later he became an adjunct professor at the TU Berlin . Before moving to the University of Paderborn, he was managing director of the European Tourism Institute GmbH at the University of Trier . From 1997 to 2013 he held the chair for “Economic and Tourism Geography ” in the subject of geography at the Faculty of Cultural Studies at the University of Paderborn. His focus is on tourism and leisure research as well as destination management and tourism consulting. He is a member of the scientific advisory board of numerous international journals, such as the "Scandinavian Journal of Hospitality and Tourism", the "Journal of Tourism and Cultural Change" and the "TW - Zeitschrift für Tourismuswissenschaft". Steinecke is the author of several textbooks on tourism research, including some monographs on cultural tourism and numerous articles in specialist journals and anthologies.
