Album sheet
The album page (fr. Feuille d'album , engl. Album leaf ) is a musical character piece .
Originally intended as an entry in an album or family book , the album sheet developed in the middle of the 19th century into an independent designation for mostly short compositions in free form , mainly intended for the piano . Probably the first important composer to use the term directly as the title of a work was Franz Liszt, whereas the works by Beethoven and Mendelssohn that had previously been written were only posthumously referred to as "album sheets".
Examples of an album sheet are:
- Ludwig van Beethoven , album sheet Für Elise (created 1810, published 1867)
- Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy , album sheet in E minor , op.117 (created around 1836, published in 1872)
- Franz Liszt , Feuille d'album , p. 165 (created in 1841, published in 1844)
- Robert Schumann , Album Blätter op. 124 (1853) and op. 99 No. 4–8 (from the Colorful Leaves , 1851)
- Theodor Kirchner , album sheets for piano op.7 (1856)
