Alcaicería
Alcaicería (from Arabic القيسارية, DMG al-qaisāriyya ) in Arabic Spain denotes the markets for luxury products such as silk fabrics, cloths, hides, carpets, silver objects, goldsmiths etc.
An alcaicería had a courtyard around which porticoes were arranged, where the shops were located. The strictly guarded market district was closed at night. The alcaicerías belonged to the state and were leased by the merchants.
The alcaicerías in Granada , Málaga and Almería provided the Nasrid emirs with great income.
