Aldford Castle

Aldford Castle

Aldford Castle is a ruined castle in the village of Aldford in the English county of Cheshire . The moth is north of St John's Church . The church stands on the site of a filled moat in the outer bailey .

The castle was built in the 12th century at the behest of Richard de Aldford . Some fragments of the walls in the outer bailey and important earthworks have been preserved to this day. The castle secured the ford over the Dee . The property is a Scheduled Monument .
