Aldo Ghira

Aldo Ghira (born April 4, 1920 in Trieste , † July 13, 1991 in Rome ) was an Italian water polo player who competed for Lazio Rome.

At the first European water polo championship after the Second World War, which was held in Monte Carlo in 1947, the Italian team won with Pasquale Buonocore , Gildo Arena , Emilio Bulgarelli , Aldo Ghira, Mario Majoni , Geminio Ognio , Gianfranco Pandolfini , Tullio Pandolfini , Luigi Raspini , Umberto Raspini and Cesare Rubini in front of the teams from Sweden and Belgium.

The following year, the Italian team competed at the Olympic Games in London with nine European champions, only the Raspini brothers were missing. The Italian team won ahead of Hungary and the Netherlands. The Italians drew against Yugoslavia in the preliminary round but won all other games, with Aldo Ghira scoring 19 of the 39 Italian goals.

His son Andrea (1953-1994) was repeatedly convicted of violent crimes.
