Alec Panchen

Alec Leonard Panchen (* 4. October 1930 ; † 17th January 2013 ) was a British vertebrate - paleontologist and zoologist .

Panchen became a zoology demonstrator at the University of Newcastle upon Tyne in 1956 , a lecturer in 1960 and a reader in 1972 . In 1993 he retired.

He was particularly concerned with the early development of tetrapods .

He was a Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh .

In Newcastle he worked with Alick Walker . Jennifer Clack is one of his PhD students .
