Alectoria Island is an island in the Prince Gustav Channel between the Antarctic Peninsula and James Ross Island . It is less than 2 km long, flat and almost free of ice. The island is about 1 km from the mouth of the Aitkenhead Glacier .
Alectoria Island was explored by the Falkland Islands Dependencies Survey (FIDS) in 1945 and named after the lichen species Alectoria antarctica that was predominant on the island at the time.
