Alejandro Guillier (born March 5, 1953 in La Serena ) is a Chilean journalist , sociologist and politician .

Life

Guillier was born to Alejandro René Guillier Ossa and María Raquel Álvarez Monterrey into a family in which “profound republican and democratic beliefs” were alive. He studied sociology and journalism . Guillier works as a radio and television journalist in Chile. In 1996 and 1997 he was National Advisor to the Journalists' Association of Chile, and from 2004 to 2006 he headed a trade union. He succeeded in entering the Senate of Chile as an independent candidate . In the 2017 presidential election in Chile , he was an independent candidate in the runoff election against Sebastián Piñera , which he lost.
