Aleks Aleksishvili

Aleks (Lekso) Aleksishvili ( Georgian ლექსო ალექსიშვილი ; * 1974 in Tbilisi ) is a Georgian politician . The economist was Minister of Economy from December 2004 to June 2005 and Minister of Finance of Georgia from June 2005 to August 2007. Since September 2007 he has been on the board of directors of the National Bank of Georgia .

Life

In 1996 he completed an economics degree at the State University of Tbilisi with a specialization in economic relations, then worked at the Institute for Economic Relations Tbilisi until 1999 and was also a research assistant at the Georgian parliament. In 1999 he became personal assistant to the Speaker of Parliament, Zurab Schwania .

In April 2001 he became Georgia's Deputy Minister of Finance. From August 2002 to May 2004 he studied at Duke University , North Carolina , then became First Assistant Secretary of the Treasury. In December of the same year he became Minister of Economy of Georgia. On June 30, 2005 he took over the post of Georgian Finance Minister. On August 30, 2007, he was replaced by Nika Gilauri in the ministerial office. In September 2007 he moved to the National Bank of Georgia as President.

From 1994 to 2001 he was honorary chairman of the Society of Young Economists of Georgia . He has been her consultant since 2004.

Aleksishvili is married and has two children. In addition to Georgian, he also speaks English and Russian.
