Aleksandar Boschkov
Aleksandar Dimow Boschkow (also written Alexandar Dimov Bozhkov , scientific transliteration Aleksandär Božkov ; Bulgarian Александър Димов Божков ; born August 9, 1951 in Sofia , Bulgaria ; † August 23, 2009 ibid) was a Bulgarian politician, economist and journalist. He initiated the privatization of the Bulgarian economy or its reorientation from a socialist planned economy to a market economy, for which he is still today referred to by the Bulgarian communists and socialists as the most contradicting politician of the Bulgarian change from communism to democracy .
After attending a US college in Baghdad ( Iraq ), he studied mechanical engineering at the Technical University of Sofia until 1974 . He worked in the field of urban planning until 1993.
In 1992/93 he was chairman of the supervisory board of the privatization agency. From 1994 to 1997 he was a member of the conservative party Union of Democratic Forces in the Bulgarian parliament . From 1997 to 1999 he was Minister of Economics and Deputy Prime Minister Stefan Sofijanski and Iwan Kostow , and until 2000 Bulgarian negotiator for the EU accession talks.
In 2000 he founded the Center for Economic Development , of which he was also director. In addition, Boschkow worked as a radio presenter for the radio station Darik Radio . A three-year suspended sentence imposed in 2004 for alleged enrichment in a privatization case was overturned after an appeal. Most recently he suffered from cancer.
