Artistic creation

The formation of clouds, 1974–1977

  • The Formation of Clouds is a series of paintings from Aleksandar Cvetkovic's early, hyper-realistic phase.

New York Impressions, 1983

  • The works on this topic are both homages to artists like Mark Rothko and Barnett Newman , as well as experiences he has made in Europe. These pictures are colorful and painted with generous brushstrokes. They reflect the atmosphere and the impressions of the time.

St. Sebastian, 1984-1986

  • The well-known myth of St. Sebastian , a subject painted by many famous artists, has been given a new form by Cvetkovic's depiction. The canvas represents the body of St. Sebastian and the brushes symbolize the arrows. Just like St. Sebastian's belief in God, these images show in a figurative sense the power of the spirit and belief in art.

Room for The Conqueror, 1984–1986

  • The Conquistador is related to a free and curious mind. The artist is an eternally amazed and explorer, full of emotions and desires, but just as full of uncertainty and doubt. The pictures from this time show longing as an endless challenge.

Entries from the old Armador, 1987

  • Armador is a man who waits for the ships in port and helps with the mooring of the ships. He is one with the ships. Just as someone longs for a trip, the artist opens the doors of his memory cabinet during this time and remembers the adventurous life that still lasts.

Flags, 1989

  • On the cast canvases from this time, flags with a cross and the colors red, beige and white dominate. Expressive works from this period show the connection between stressed, sensitive and visible art as well as its poetic content.

Backyards, 1990

  • This phase began in the early 1990s. It shows a nostalgic memory of his childhood and of the monastery gardens he once visited. During this time, he won the largest number of influential painting awards.

Minoan Garden, 1994

  • Greek mythology is also an artist's interest and these images were born from it. Some of the works from this period, The Journey of Theseus are some versiones of the Minoan Garden .
