Aleksinac (Serbian Алексинац [ aˈɫɛksinat͡s ] ) is a town and municipality in Serbia in the Nišava district . The city has 17,171 inhabitants and the municipality 57,749 (2002 census).
The village of Aleksinac was mentioned for the first time in 1516 in a list of Ottoman settlements in Sanjak Kruševac. According to a legend, the name of the city is probably derived from the owner of a coffee house called Aleks.
The Moravica and Južna Morava rivers flow through the town . The nearby Bovan reservoir is used to supply the region with water.
