Tešica ( Cyrillic : Тешица) is a village in eastern Serbia .

Geography and population

The village is located in the Opština Aleksinac in Nišavski okrug in the east of the country at 168 meters above sea level. Tešica at the 2011 census was 1700 inhabitants, while in 2002 it was 1888. According to the last three population statistics, the number of inhabitants continues to fall.

The majority of the population of Tešica are 97% Serbs , and there are also 34 Roma , 4 Romanians , 3 Croats , as well as a Macedonian , a Yugoslav , a Slovenian , a Russian , a Slavic Muslim , a Bulgarian and a Hungarian living in the village. The place consists of 540 households.

Tešica is located south of the municipality capital Aleksinac . The village lies on the banks of the South Morava .

Infrastructure

From 2008 to 2012 Radomir Ilić was the village mayor of Tešica. There is the football club FK Tešica, also called FK Jastrebac, after the nearby Jastrebac mountains .

In the center of the village there is a memorial for the fallen partisans from World War II . At Tešica a bridge spans the southern Morava. The bridge is known as Tešički most. The village has lighted and paved roads, as well as electricity and telephone lines.

In Tešica, the Serbian Orthodox Church of the Dormition of the Virgin Mary , built in 1838, is located at 18 Miloša Street. The church belongs to the Niš Eparchy and is a parish church.
