Zagorje ob Savi (German Seger an der Sau ) is a city and a municipality in central Slovenia .

Location and inhabitants

17,229 people live in the total community, which consists of 73 villages and hamlets. The capital, Zagorje ob Savi, has 6,893 inhabitants and is located at 269 m in the Sava Valley , east of Ljubljana . Together with Trbovlje and Hrastnik , with which it is closely connected, it forms the Zasavska region. Lignite is mined in this region.

history

On January 19, 1917, a mail train was hit by a landslide near Zagorje. 40 people died in the railway accident .
