Paul Kirschstein

Friedrich Julius Paul Kirschstein (born October 15, 1863 in Barmen (today a district of Wuppertal ), † July 3, 1930 in Freiburg im Breisgau ) was a German administrative lawyer and ministerial official.

Life

After studying law and obtaining a doctorate as a Dr. jur. he joined in 1885 in the judicial and administrative service of Prussia and in 1888 first government clerk and 1891 Regierungsassessor transported. In 1894 he became an unskilled worker in the Cologne District Office and then in the Upper Presidium of the Rhine Province , before he was District Administrator of the Gummersbach district between 1899 and 1900 . In 1907, he appeared as a Privy Councilor and lecturer advice to the Ministry of Public Works of Prussia and was there in 1912 to the Privy Senior Government promoted.

In 1917 he became president of the Poznan administrative district . He was also the last district president of Poznan, since after the end of the First World War, most of the administrative district had to be ceded to Poland in accordance with the provisions of the Versailles Peace Treaty . For this reason he returned to the Ministry of Public Works of Prussia in 1919, where he became Ministerial Director and Deputy Representative of Prussia at the Reichsrat .

On September 1, 1920, he moved to the Reich Ministry of Transport as successor to Max Peters as ministerial director and head of the waterways department . In 1921 he was appointed State Secretary while maintaining the management of the Waterways Department. After he was first put into temporary retirement in 1923, he finally retired from active service in 1924.

The German fighter pilot Hans Kirschstein , who was killed in an accident in 1918 and succeeded Manfred von Richthofen in his fighter squadron, was a son of Paul Kirschstein. The second son, Hellmut, was murdered in 1940 in the Nazi killing center in Grafeneck due to his illness.
