    The administrative district of Posen was established in 1815 in the Prussian province of Grand Duchy of Posen . It comprised the southern part of the province and had an area of ​​17,839 km² when it was founded. The seat of the district president was in Poznan . The majority of the population of the administrative district was Polish-speaking. The province of Posen had belonged to the German Empire since 1871 .
