Johann Friedrich Theodor Baumann , from 1828 von Baumann (born June 24, 1768 in Bodenteich , Electorate Braunschweig-Lüneburg , † October 14, 1830 in Posen ) was a royal Prussian lawyer and civil servant. Most recently he was President of the Province or the Grand Duchy of Poznan .

Life

The son of the pastor and superintendent Hardwig Ludwig Baumann (1722–1786). He received his education at the high school in Salzwedel. Then he came to the university in Göttingen.

In 1793 he came to the court in Bromberg as an assessor . In 1795 he became a councilor for the South Prussian government in Thorn . A year later Baumann was appointed chief judge in Warsaw . In 1806 he was appointed Privy Councilor of Justice. From 1801 he was a secret councilor in Liegnitz . Baumann then served as Vice President of the government in Poznan from 1815 to 1818 . In 1817 he was awarded the 3rd Class Red Eagle Order . Between 1818 and 1824 he was district president in Königsberg . In 1823 he also received the Order of the Red Eagle, 2nd class .

From 1825 to 1830 he was President of Posen. Like Magnus Friedrich von Bassewitz and Moritz Haubold von Schönberg, he did not see an independent intermediate instance between the central government and the regional president in the internal administrative debate about the powers of the senior presidents . Another group, on the other hand, advocated greater independence for the provinces.

The historian Manfred Laubert judges Baumann in his function as senior president as a “mindless bureaucrat of the purest water” and “conflict shy” .

Baumann was a freemason . He remained unmarried. On November 3, 1828 Baumann was raised to the Prussian nobility in Berlin .

He left a son, the government trainee Johann von Baumann and a daughter Jeannette (Johanna) (1802–1855), who married General Heinrich von Reitzenstein .
