Heinrich Hans Wilhelm Freiherr von Reitzenstein (born October 2, 1796 in Treptow an der Rega , † November 6, 1865 in Potsdam ) was a Prussian infantry general .

Life

origin

Heinrich came from the Unter-Schwarzenstein line of the traditional Franconian Reitzenstein family . His father was the Prussian major general Heinrich August Friedrich von Reitzenstein , his mother Dorothee a née von Heyden-Linden (1771–1823). The later Prussian major general Karl von Reitzenstein was his older brother.

Military career

Reitzenstein first visited the cadet house in Berlin and at the end of January 1813 was transferred as a second lieutenant to the 1st West Prussian Infantry Regiment of the Prussian Army . He took part in the Wars of Liberation in 1813/14 , was awarded the Iron Cross 2nd class for his behavior in the Battle of Laon and, after the peace treaty in mid-December 1816, advanced to Prime Lieutenant . From March 1817 Reitzenstein was in command of the General Staff of the General Command in Prussia, rose to captain at the end of March 1821 and joined the General Staff of the 11th Division in Breslau on September 22, 1821 . This was followed from June 18, 1825 to April 3, 1832 a service in the General Staff of the VI. Army Corps . After his promotion to major , he was then transferred to the Great General Staff . Here he acted from the end of February 1840 as head of a theater of war and on April 12, 1842, as a lieutenant colonel, became chief of the General Staff of VI. Army Corps appointed. As such, he rose to lieutenant general on July 13, 1854 and was awarded the Order of the Red Eagle First Class with Oak Leaves by King Friedrich Wilhelm IV on February 8, 1858 . After Reitzenstein was released from his position as authorized representative on February 27, 1858, on June 3, 1858, he was appointed vice governor of the Mainz fortress . In the summer he was commanded to visit the Grand Ducal Hessian troops and Grand Duke Ludwig III. awarded him the Grand Cross of his Order of Merit in October . Reitzenstein married on May 24, 1822 in Posen Johanna von Baumann (1802–1855), the daughter of the Chief President Theodor von Baumann . The couple had several children:
