Federal Military Commission

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Federal Military Commission was a 1819 created Commission of the German Federal . It was a permanent organ for the current military affairs of the federal government and had an advisory function for the federal assembly , the highest decision-making body in military matters.

The Federal Military Commission was under the Austrian chairmanship of six military officers, three permanent members from Austria , Prussia and Bavaria and three alternating members from the three mixed army corps of the Federal Army . Their activities extended to the administration of the federal fortresses and the management of the fortress construction, to a certain control of the condition of the contingents of the federal army as well as (since 1846) to the inspection of the railway for military purposes.

The work of the military commission turned out to be very cumbersome at first. Only after 1830 did she try harder to raise the military readiness of the armed forces and thus the German Confederation.
