Georg Otto von Wulffen

Georg Otto von Wulffen (born June 7, 1813 in Breslau , † June 9, 1889 in Berlin ) was a Prussian infantry general and governor of the Invalidenhaus in Berlin .

Life

origin

He comes from the Halberstätter line of those von Wulffen , who received the Neindorf fief in 1458. His parents were Karl August von Wulffen (* July 14, 1759; † October 27, 1836) and his third wife, Philippine Elisabeth, née Friesner (* April 2, 1775; † May 12, 1844). Two older brothers were also Prussian officers.

Military career

Wulffen attended the cadet schools in Potsdam and Berlin. From there he was on 13 August 1830 as sergeant of the 2nd Guards Regiment walk the Prussian army paid and on 21 February 1831 Portepeefähnrich appointed. In the war against Denmark , Wulffen led the attack on Fehmarn on March 15, 1864 and took possession of the island, for which he received a commendation from the king. On June 18, 1865, he was promoted to lieutenant colonel. During the war against Austria in 1866, Wulffen distinguished himself in the Battle of Gitschin so that he received the order Pour le Mérite for it . Then he fought in the battle of Königgrätz . On April 18, 1867 he was promoted to colonel and on June 22, 1876 appointed commander of the 6th Brandenburg Infantry Regiment No. 52 .

During the war against France in 1870/71, Wulffen fought with distinction in the battles at Spichern , Bionville , Mars la Tour , Gravelotte and St. Privat as well as in the skirmishes of Les Tapes, Bellevue and Woippy and the enclosure of Metz . Also in the battles at Beaume-la-Rolande , Maizieres, Orleans , Grien, Briare and the Battle of Le Mans . He received both classes of the Iron Cross and the Oak Leaves for the Order Pour le Mérite.

On August 18, 1781 he was commissioned with the leadership of the 10th Infantry Brigade and on November 8, 1871 appointed commander of the brigade. The promotion to major general took place on January 18, 1872, on March 13, 1875 he was commander of Breslau . On March 22, 1877, he was appointed lieutenant general . On his 50th anniversary in service, Wulffen was awarded the Order of the Red Eagle 1st class with oak leaves and the number "50".
