history

The remains of the medieval fortress of Lipovac, first mentioned in the 15th century, lie above the village. A Roman fortress is said to have been located on the site . Under the fortress is the Serbian Orthodox Manastir Lipovac Monastery , which was built in 1399 by order of Stefan Lazarević .

The monastery is under the protection of the Republic of Serbia , as a cultural monument of the greatest importance. Manastir Lipovac was originally dedicated to the Holy First Martyr and Archdeacon Stefan , but today the monastery church is dedicated to the Transfiguration of Christ . There is no Serbian Orthodox church in the village.

A children's home for poor children was founded in the village in 1930 by King Alexander I. From 2008 to 2012 Dragoslav Radojičić was the village mayor of Lipovac.
