Aleksandar Flaker

Aleksandar Flaker (born July 27, 1924 in Białystok , Poland , † October 25, 2010 in Zagreb , Croatia ) was a Yugoslav and Croatian literary scholar.

Life

Flaker studied Slavic Studies and Philosophy at the University of Zagreb , where he worked as an assistant at the Chair for Slavic Languages ​​and Literature. In 1954 he received his doctorate . In 1957 he completed his habilitation, became assistant professor in 1958 and associate professor in 1962. In 1965 he was appointed professor of Russian literature at the University of Zagreb. In 1989 he retired. Until 2002 he taught as professor emeritus.

He taught at several European and American universities. He has been a full member of the Croatian Academy of Sciences and Arts since 1991 . He was an associate member of the Slovenian Academy of Arts and Sciences, honorary member of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences and external member of the Polish Academy of Sciences and Arts.
