Alex Konadu
Alex Konadu (born 1950 in Adwumakase Kese , Kwabre District ; died 2011 ) was a Ghanaian guitarist and singer . After the death of EK Nyame he was known as the "King of Ghanaian Guitar Highlife " and was especially known for the live shows in his home country, but also released about a dozen albums.
Konadu made music at a young age and initially played for Kwabena Akwaboah and the Happy Brothers Band before becoming a solo artist. He sang on Twi and was indebted to traditional highlife music; He rejected newer developments such as Afrobeat . Because of his ability to attract large crowds, he was known in Ghana as "One Man Thousand" and "One Man Army". According to a legend, he played in every single town and village in his homeland. His breakthrough came in 1976 with the album Asaase Asa . The title song is considered to be one of his greatest successes and tells the supposedly true story of a man who loses his wife and sister when they are killed by a falling tree. The song is often played at funerals in Ghana. Konadu influenced many other Ghanaian musicians.
