history

Alexander & Baldwin once one of the five largest operators of sugar plantations in Hawaii (next to C. Brewer & Co., Theo H. Davies & Co., Amfac and Castle & Cooke) and was from these five, once a veritable economic oligarchy on Hawaii was the only company still operating this business since 2000. In 2016 Alexander & Baldwin also stopped producing sugar. With 370 km² of land, Alexander & Baldwin is still one of the largest landowners in Hawaii today, and the company also owns land on the US mainland. The shares are traded on the NYSE and were included in the Dow Jones Transportation Average until 2012 .
