Alexander Böker (chemist)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Alexander Böker (born September 17, 1973 in Frankfurt am Main ) is a German chemist and university professor. Since February 1, 2015, he has been director of the Fraunhofer Institute for Applied Polymer Research IAP in Potsdam-Golm and holder of the Chair of Polymer Materials and Polymer Technologies at the University of Potsdam.

Life

After graduating from high school, Böker began studying chemistry in 1993 at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz and Cornell University in the USA. He wrote his diploma thesis on "Side-chain fluorinated block copolymers as molecular functional layers on polymer surfaces". This was followed by a doctorate in Bayreuth and from 2002 to 2004 a postdoc at the Department of Polymer Science & Engineering at the University of Massachusetts , Amherst , USA. In 2007 he completed his habilitation in physical chemistry.

From 2008 to 2015, Böker held the chair for macromolecular materials and surfaces at RWTH Aachen University as well as deputy scientific director of the DWI - Leibniz Institute for Interactive Materials eV His work focuses on self-organization phenomena of nanoparticles and polymers as well as the transfer of biological functionalities to polymer materials . For his research on the self-duplication of colloids, he received the ERC Consolidator Grant of 1.9 million euros from the European Research Council (ERC) in 2015.
