Alexander Baumgärtel (born September 28, 1972 in Saint Petersburg ) is a former German speed skater .
Career
At the German Junior Championship in 1992 in the small four-way fight (over 500, 3000, 1500 and 5000 meters) he was able to take first place and thus became German Junior Champion. In 1992 he made his debut over 5000 and later over 10,000 meters in the World Cup. In total, he started 18 races, but was never able to occupy a podium. At the 1994 Winter Olympics , he was part of the German squad in Oslo , where he started over 5000 meters and finished 23rd. Baumgärtel also took part in the 1998 Winter Games in Nagano four years later , where he started over 10,000 meters in addition to the 5000 meters. Baumgärtel reached 13th place over 5000 meters and tenth place over 10,000 meters.
