Alexander Duncker (born February 7, 1850 , † May 10, 1929 ) was a German publisher , book seller and editor of numerous magazines in Leipzig.

Live and act

Duncker owned a publishing house in Leipzig and an estate in Machern , the Landhaus Louise (since 1900). He had been running a flourishing publishing book trade in Leipzig since 1881 and was a publisher of profitable and popular magazines such as Glas-Industriezeitung, Kürschner-Zeitung, Tonwaren-Zeitung, Majolika-Zeitung, Töpfer-Zeitung and Brush-Magazine, Brush-Magazine and Polytechnisches Notblatt . He also owned the packaging materials and means of transport market in Leipzig.

Alexander Duncker was married to Louise Duncker. After his death, his wife continued to run the publishing house, which after her death († December 30, 1937 at the age of 78) existed as the Alexander Duncker publishing house in Leipzig's Keilstrasse 1 and after 1945 in Uferstrasse 21 at least until 1947.

Alexander and Louise Duncker were buried in the crypt of their hereditary burial facility at the cemetery in Machern.

Varia

  • Duncker promoted the emerging cycling in Saxony at the end of the 19th century. In 1891 he was a co-founder of the Saxon Cyclists' Association and was its first chairman for five years.
  • Duncker had made a contribution to Machern, where he lived, so that a street in Machern was named after him out of gratitude.
