Alexander Alexandrovich Gaifullin

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Alexander Alexandrowitsch Gaifullin ( Russian Александр Александрович Гайфуллин ; born March 22, 1984 ) is a Russian mathematician who deals with geometry and topology .

Gaifullin studied at Lomonosov University , where he received his doctorate in 2008 under Wiktor Letter (combinatorial realization of cycles, Russian). He conducts research at the Steklow Institute . In 2010 he completed his habilitation (Russian doctorate).

He deals with the combinatorial topology of manifolds, simplicial complexes, Pontryagin classes, the problem of the realization of cycles, simple polytopes and flexible polyhedra (within the framework of the Bellows conjecture proved by I. Kh. Sabitov - see Robert Connelly - and their Generalization to higher dimensions and non-Euclidean geometries).

In 2016 he gave a plenary lecture at the European Congress of Mathematicians (ECM) in Berlin (Flexible polyhedra and their volumes). He was already invited to speak at the ECM 2012 in Krakow (Combinatorial realization of cycles and small covers).
