Alexander Green Fite

Alexander Green Fite (born July 31, 1892 in Nashville , † June 30, 1962 in Los Angeles ) was an American Romanist .

life and work

Fite studied at Vanderbilt University in Nashville (Master's degree in 1914). From 1915 to 1917 he was in Oxford (with a Rhodes scholarship ) and taught in France. After a year of military service, he taught at the University of Wisconsin from 1918 , studied from 1919 to 1920 in Paris, Madrid and Rome and received his doctorate in 1921 at the University of Wisconsin in Madison with the work A study of manuscript 627 of the Berne Library on the epic poem, Godefroi de Bouillon . From 1922 to 1957 he taught at the University of California in Los Angeles , most recently as an associate professor.

Fite was Vice President of the American Association of Teachers of French (AATF).
