Alexander Hume

Alexander Hume (around 1560 - December 4, 1609 ) was a Scottish poet , clergyman in the Church of Scotland and grammarian .

Hume was born as the son of Patrick, 5th Lord Polwarth and received his education at the Universitas Sancti Andreae as well as on the European continent . He was intent on pursuing a legal career, but he became a Church member of his own accord and became pastor of Logie , Stirlingshire . In 1599 he published Hymns and Sacred Songs , including the well-known poem Day Estival, which describes a summer day.
