Georg Hyckel

Georg Johann Paul Hyckel (born May 10, 1880 in Ratibor , Province of Silesia , † June 22, 1975 in Warendorf , Westphalia ) was a German teacher, local historian , non-fiction author and publicist. With Elisabeth Grabowski and Walter Kuhn , he is one of the most important folklorists in Upper Silesia.

Life

Georg Hyckel finished high school in Raciborz, attended the teacher training college in Pilchowitz and was in the years 1900-1903 as an elementary school teacher in Komornik then until 1906 in Antonienhiitte used. He then studied in Frankfurt , was employed as a teacher for the deaf and dumb in Homberg and married in October 1907 in Oberglogau . In the years 1911-1945 he was employed as director of the boys' deaf- and -dumb institution in Ratibor and director of the local museum. In the years 1922–1933 he was editor of the Oberschlesische Rundschau magazine with the supplement Our Home and the annual calendar Ratiborer Heimatbote. Folk calendar for town and country .

After the establishment of the Upper Silesian Folk Song Archive in Bytom , which was a branch of the Association of Folk Studies Associations , he was elected to the committee for collecting Upper Silesian folk songs . As a folk song supervisor for the Ratibor district , in 1928 he made 71 song texts available to the Upper Silesian Folk Song Archive.

After the end of the war he was head of the special school in Cottbus . After his retirement he moved to Warendorf .
